There is an incredible richness here yet the wine has exceptional composure and harmony. Loads going on. This is a serious beverage with incredible layering and complexity. Like so many 2010’s from Italy, it looks much younger than it’s real age. 100% Sangiovese from Castell’in Villa’s best vineyards in the South. The Possio dell Rose Chianti Classico Riserva is made purely from a selection of our own Sangiovese cuttings, which have then been planted in this particular vineyard, which gives its name to the wine. It has been vinified according to the high standards and special methods used here at Castell’in Villa and then stored in new French oak barriques for more than 18 months. The wine is a combination of ripe fruit and tannin. Even in its youth it has a complex intensity combined with the host of soft tannins. A host of black cherry, plum, licorice, sage and lavender overtones develop with time in a complex wine that is going to need quite a few years to be at its best. The 2010 Riserva will thrill readers who appreciate firm, structured wines built for cellaring.
Its characteristics are in line with other Castell'in Villa wines but in this case more concentrated. The wine shows both the generous fruit of the cherry and the characteristics of the land, as in all the other wines of Castell'in Villa. Chianti Classico Riserva is a combination of soft and abundant tannins with an exaggerated finesse.
