Rioja, Spain
Barón de Ley is a family-owned winery located in Spain’s most celebrated wine region, Rioja, a privileged terroir to farm and craft premium quality wines.
Housed in a centuries-old monastery, where the monks made wine more than 500 years ago, Barón de Ley was founded in 1985 as a ground-breaking project in the DOCa Rioja: a vineyard-focused winery inspired by the French châteaux.
Honouring our brand name, de ley, which is the Spanish expression for legit, at Barón de Ley we take care of every little detail to offer in every bottle an excellent, trustworthy wine. A genuinely good Rioja.
VINEYARD
Barón de Ley Reserva is made using grapes from our vineyards in the Rioja Oritental subregion, mainly the estates in Mendavia and Los Almendros in Ausejo.
The grapes from this area provide a concentrated, balanced and drinkable character to this wine.
VINIFICATION AND AGEING
Following manual harvest and manual selection, the grapes ferment in our temperature-controlled state-of-the-art stainless steal vats where we search for the ideal balance between extraction and aromatic preservation.
After a minimum of 20 months ageing in American-oak casks, this wine finds its plenitude rounding off in the bottle.
TASTING NOTES
COLOR: Clean and bright with a medium robe and a ruby red color.
AROMA: On the nose it is complex with aromas of red fruits, sweet spices with a balsamic background.
PALATE: After a powerful attack the sensation of soft, supple volume gradually extends across the palate for a creamy finish. The aftertaste reminds you of the red berry fruit mingled with hints of wild herbs.
FOOD PAIRING
In Rioja this wine is enjoyed with one of our most notorious and simple dishes: Patatas a la riojana, a hearty potatoes and chorizo-based stew.
It is a great wine for Sunday roast, stews, goose or turkey.
