Established in 1996, Finca el Origen is the first Chilean winery in Argentina. With a surface area under vine of 229 hectares, the vineyards situated at 1,200 meters above sea level on the Andean foothills were the first ever to be planted in Vista Flores, Uco valley, in 1998. The grapes used in its Mendocinean wines are all sourced from its own vineyards and bear the distinctive characteristics of high-altitude, continental-climate wines. Finca el Origen's signature varieties are Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon and Torrontés.

The Uco Valley is located at the foothills of the Andes mountain range.  Millions of years ago, some parts of the mountain range were submerged under the sea, which explains the presence of sea fossils like the ammonite which represents the wine through our logo.  They are considered silent witnesses of the orgin of the Andes and today, by being part of our genuine terroir, are witnesses of the origin our wine.

The water used to irrigate the vineyards comes from a stream that passes through our La Esperanza vineyard.  It flows from a natural glacier-fed spring in Tunuyan.  The purity of this fresh water is transferred to the grapes.

The well-drained soil of the Uco Valley is poor, rocky and filled with pebbles.  The warm, dry breezes of spring and summer in this dry continental climate make it very easy to farm sustainably.  Vineyards are naturally healthy as pests and diseases have fewer chances to survive.  Cover crops help to retain some fertile nutrients.  Pesticides are used as a preventive practice, and applied as little as possible.

Clusters were manually selected during harvest to ensure only the best grapes were used. A short 3-day maceration preceded the 14-day maceration with select yeasts, which included pumping over and punching down operations for a more delicate structure. Total maceration time was 24 days.
The wine was then transferred to French and American oak barrels (25% first use) for a 10 to 12-month
aging period. The wine was bottle aged for another 6 months.

Faithful to the style of Finca El Origen´s Gran Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon features an intense ruby red colour contributed by its 8% Malbec. The nose offers black fruits with vegetal notes. Notes of peppermint give a fresh sensation and accompany the vanilla aromas from the barrel. The mouth is fresh, with good acidity and punch, nice tannins and lower alcohol content. Pair well with BBQ roasts, lamb, roasted vegetables.

Serve at 60º-64ºF / 15º-17ºC
