Platt Vineyard, Sonoma, California
The highly revered Platt Vineyard is a cool climate site located just 5 miles from the Pacific Ocean with elevations ranging from 400-800 ft in the far western portion of the Sonoma Coast AVA. The slopes are situated in the landscape to welcome the cool marine breezes inward through the valley. With ideal rugged terrain and Goldridge soil, it is perfect for producing the fruit forward well balanced wines we love to craft.
It was then 60% destemmed, crushed, and placed in open top fermenters, where it was manually punched down by winemaker. It then spent 17 months in French oak barrels - 20% of them new, the rest neutral. It's a bigger wine, with a touch more mid-palate density and depth, yet it still has plenty of underlying structure and tannic grip, offering up lots of redcurrant and darker cherry fruit as well as curing spices, smoke, and foresty earthy notes. Give this a rocking effort 2-4 years of bottle age and enjoy over the following decade or more. This beauty strikes a good balance between Old World and New World.
