Selected the 'First Royal Vineyard of France' in the year 630, Château d'Arlay has remained in the Laguiche family since the 12th century. Before that time it was owned, at different times, by the Kings of France, Spain and England. These are among a few key reasons why the Château is registered a National Monument. It isn't only the history buffs coming by every year to visit, however. The Laguiche family knows a thing or two about winemaking...(see also: Montrachet). Count Alain de Laguiche has been at the helm of Château d'Arlay since the early 1980s after taking over for his father, Count Renaud de Laguiche. Today, Alain produces a tremendous lineup of Jurassic wines from their nearly 50 acres of vineyards located just outside the château's walls.

Arlay Castle is an entirely family-owned estate which is devoted to developing traditional wines capable of ageing, where all the soil characteristics can express themselves with elegance. Our estate is considered to be the oldest wine-growing chateau in France, dating from 1070 which is proved by the archives kept there. In other respects, Arlay has always been handed down by legitimate inheritance from its foundation until today. A very rare event in Europe!

By virtue of its position in the roots of the wine industry, it forms part of the reputation of the great wines of France and this has often earned it the title of a top Jura vineyard (”grand cru du Jura”). It stands as a brand of tradition and quality as much in France as abroad. This is emphasized by a unique emblematic labeling of our bottles which has remained unchanged since 1917.

From old vines of Savagnin, raised without any veil of yeast to preserve its freshness and its rich and aromatic bouquet.

Accompaniments: River fish, Hard cheeses, Mushrooms in cream, Grilled vegetables.
