Ribera del Duero, Spain
Second wine from Dominio de Pingus who make the legendary Pingus Red. Limited.
Harmonious and elegant, this is a beautiful second wine from the renowned Dominio de Pingus. Like those other esteemed names, Pingus has a quality that is often lacking in today's "modern" wines-a sense of utter individuality. There is no other wine in the world, let alone Spain, that is quite like Pingus, and that singularity is one of the fundamental requirements for great wine.
The Flor de Pingus is a mosaic of different vineyards in the village of La Horra in Burgos, totaling some 35 hectares. As all these are estate vineyards, they were much better controlled than those used for PSI, and the wine shows it in a challenging vintage like this one. It has a slightly different profile from your average Ribera, with better freshness.
Deep plum, almost opaque, the nose here presents very beguiling fruit, initially playful but with innate power, intense black fruit complemented by shades of violet and wild herbs. There is heat and spice here, all revealed on a palate which offers an abundance of generous fruit, layered with fine tannins and stony minerals. The finish shows drive, earthy minerals and dark fruit concentration great ambition.
The wine is clear and bright with a medium ruby color and presence of legs. The nose is clean and developing, showing medium intensity aromas of cedar, vanilla, chocolate, dark plums, dark cherries, licorice and anise. The wine is dry in the mouth with a medium acidity. It has medium supple tannins and a high alcohol. It has a medium body and flavors of cedar, vanilla, dark plums, dark cherries and licorice. The finish is long.
Organic & Biodynamic
Wine made from grapes grown organically using natural composting techniques and special preparations of herbal sprays while following the astronomical calendar.
Peter Sissek's Flor de Pingus is produced in extremely small quantities from ancient Tempranillo vines. From grapes meticulously cared for, fermented under temperature controlled condiditions to retain a fruity dark cherry profile; the resulting wines are matured 14 months in barrique. Full-bodied, bold and effusive in its vanilla/ cedar spice. One of the iconic wines of Spain. This Danish winemaker pushes the region's famous varietal to its limits.
