In much the same way that Talbott Vineyards devotes itself to handcrafting world-class wines using only the most exceptional raw materials, Robert Talbott Inc. has earned a reputation as one of America’s preeminent apparel brands for men and women. Established by Robert Talbott Sr. and his wife Audrey in 1950, Robert Talbott Inc. is recognized for crafting modern classics that embody the company’s signature blend of quality and style. Today, Robert Talbott Inc. is guided by Talbott Vineyards founder Robb Talbott, who honors the legacy and traditions of his parents by maintaining their meticulous dedication to excellence.

Robert (Robb) Sharpe Talbott was born in Connecticut on January 28, 1948, to Robert and Audrey Talbott. The family moved to the small seaside town of Carmel in 1950 and started the Robert Talbott Tie Company. At a young age, Robb began helping with the family business and worked throughout his youth in many capacities at the tie studio. He also traveled with his family on buying trips to Europe where, while visiting the vineyards in the Burgundy region of Southern France, the Talbott family developed their interest in wine.

In 1981, Robb married and soon began a family that would grow to include the Talbott's three children: Sarah Case, Robert Logan and Kalin Hart. In 1982, Robb launched Talbott Vineyards with his father Robert Talbott Senior. Robb planted the first grapes on Diamond T Vineyard and began designing the winery the family would soon build in the Carmel Valley. He incorporated the same values into the winery that made the Robert Talbott Tie Company a success: an absolutely strict commitment to the highest quality standards in production; fostering and rewarding dedication and hard work from employees; recognizing the importance of each individual person in the organization, and involvement of the Talbott family in all phases of the business.

Our famed Sleepy Hollow Vineyard, located in the Santa Lucia Highlands, was designated one of California’s Grand Cru vineyards by Wine Enthusiast in 2016 for its ability to produce exceptional wines year after year, even under challenging conditions. With rolling hills and mountains, lush green land and bright blue skies, this vineyard has remarkable beauty. First planted in 1972, the vineyard is comprised of 565 planted acres divided into three vineyard parcels, Sleepy Hollow North, Sleepy Hollow West and Sleepy Hollow South. Each grows exclusively Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes.

This wine is produced using primarily Dijon clones of Chardonnay that range from 15-25 y ears old. We blend these wines with enough of our original 1972 plantings from our prized South Block to add a sense of continuity and complexity. The Santa Lucia Highlands had a classically moderate and long growing season in 2016. Bud break was early this year due to warm spring temperatures and minimal rainfall, leading to an early start to harvest. This idyllic vintage produced elegant wines with an excellent balance of sugar and acidity, incredible intensity of fruit and beautiful color and flavor.

Talbott Sleepy Hollow Vineyard Chardonnay is our flagship Chardonnay. It offers elegant aromas of jasmine and sandalwood along with richer notes of brioche and butterscotch. On the palate, lively minerality adds complexity to flavors of pear, green apple and lemon. Rich, elegant and luxurious, this Chardonnay has a satiny smooth finish with a delightful touch of cinnamon, vanilla and hard spices. 100% estate-grown Chardonnay, Santa Lucia Highlands.
