This vineyard, which is part of a Soave Classico Cru site, is positioned on the hillside beside the Castle of Soave. The vineyard was purchased by the Rizzardi family in 1977 and has always been an integral part of the Guerrieri Rizzardi Soave. Over the years, through gradual replanting and re-trellising, the vineyard has finally come to realise its full potential and we are now able to offer the best of this vineyard as the single vineyard bottling FERRA.

The vineyard, rich in volcanic soil, enjoys a favorable southerly aspect and exposure to the late afternoon sun as well as this the position and height allows the benefits of cooling breezes, all of which gives the wine a very different signature to that of our other Cru vineyard COSTEGGIOLA.

Ageing potential: up to 6 years

Vineyard: This vineyard, part of the Soave Cru of ‘Tenda’ is positioned on the hillside beside the Castle of

afternoon sun, the position and height allows the benefits of cooling breezes. 

Vine Age: 15 years
Harvest: By hand with a strict selection of the more mature grapes 

Winemaking: Alcoholic fermentation after pressing of the destemmed grapes for 10 to 12 days at a temperature of 15°-16° C in lined concrete tanks.

Maturation: 12-18 months of which approximately 6 months are in a 2,500 litre
barrel.

First Bottling: November 29th 2022

Tasting Notes: Ferra is only made in the best years for this particular CRU site. This vintage has the tell-tale depth and richness we are used to. Fine orchard fruit appeals on the nose and palate along with
the hint of oak in the background; silky and layered this will be a long-lasting and rewardingly
complex Soave. (Feb. 2023 DS)

GREEN WINERY
In 2011 the new winery just outside the town of Bardolino was completed. The winery was designed to be energy self-sufficient with its solar panels (2000 m²) providing more energy than is actually used. Other choices: outdoor fermentation tanks for red wines (using the sun’s energy to reach fermentation temperature), a gravity system to bring the juice (must) from the receiver to the fermentation tanks, the water used in production in from our own well, all have their green benefits.

IN THE VINEYARDS
We are committed to limiting the amount of artificial pest and weed control products used in the vineyards, for this purpose we intentionally planted on the edges of the vineyards shrubs and trees deliberately chosen to attract beneficial insects (able to keep pests under control).
The latest project was to seed in between the rows of vines, plants such as pea, vetch and clovers which when mowed in the summer act as natural fertilizers. In addition, in some vineyards, we opt for mechanical weeding, as shown here in the vineyard to the right. In 2016 we purchased a 4 hectare, organically certified vineyard on the hillside of Rocca del Garda.

PACKAGING/RECYCLED
We opt to use light weight glass bottles for almost all of our wines and everything that is used daily in the winery for production purposes is recycled. Recycling ranges from the glass and corks of the bottles used for tasting to the paper in the office to the cardboard/plastic wrapping of all dry goods.
