Maule Valley, Central Valley, Chile
A fuller red with deeper red fruit notes and a touch of greenness. This wine evokes hints of mulberry, plum and violets. Try it slightly chilled or however you enjoy your refreshing reds.
The vines are planted 400 feet above sea level, farmed sustainably in transition to organic. The fermentation is with native yeasts, no fining is done, and aging is primarily in concrete with only a touch of oaking.
Vinification
The Cabernet Sauvignon was picked on March 18, 2021 and fermentation took place in a 10,000 liter concrete vat with minimal pump over for 12 days and aged for 6 months with light oak.
The Estate
Frenchman David Marcel is the producer and winemaker of Via Maitia with his Chilean wife Loreto in the Maule Valley of Chile. Marcel comes from the French Basque Country and has been involved with wine in Chile for a long time. He was one of the first winemakers in Chile to succeed in the production of quality, craft Pipeo starting with the 2013 vintage, and a Carignan called Weon starting in 2016. The combination of the traditional production method and the traditional grape varieties lead to a very unique, herbal, and quaffable wines that are incredible values. Aupa!
