Chateauneuf du Pape, France
Château de Beaucastel has long been regarded as one of the most outstanding wines in France. It is notorious for its elegance, balance, and aging potential. Beaucastel has an exceptional terroir at the Northern limit of Châteauneuf du Pape, exposed to the Mistral wind. All thirteen varieties of the appellation have been organically grown since the sixties.
The years in 9 regularly mark the memory of winegrowers and this vintage was no exception. After an early bud burst in early April, flowering was gradual and took place in good conditions in all the vineyards. Then a hot summer began in late June, which the vines bravely resisted: they suffered little from water stress, thanks to the chamomile herbal infusions we sprayed on the vegetation to cope with the heat. Finally, the harvest went as usual, without any particular precocity. The wines are promising a vintage in 9 is born, once again, under a lucky star.
Each variety is harvested separately and manually. Vinification takes place in oak fermenters for the reductive varieties (Mourvèdre, Syrah) and in traditional enameled concrete tanks for the Oxidative grapes (all the others). Once the malolactic fermentation is finished, the Famille Perrin blends the different varieties. The blend is then aged in oak foudres for a year before being bottled.
Magnificent deep intense ruby-red color. The nose of this Beaucastel red 2019 is rich and complex, mixing superb notes of spices, fresh fruit, cocoa, and brandy. This wine offers a silky texture and powerful aromas of blackberries and noble spices, very elegant, full-bodied, and generous on the palate. It ends with a lovely length.
