95% Zinfandel, 3% Petite Sirah & 2% Grenache
Sonoma County, California
They’ve been making wine in Sonoma County for over ten years and have established a dynamic network of friends and colleagues that include vineyard owners, growers, and winemakers along the way. While they successfully navigated and maneuvered their way through the négoce market in the past, Valravn represents the next evolutionary step for them. Because of those forged relationships and friendships, they have exclusive access to grapes from fantastic vineyards and the team to
oversee hands-on production from vineyard to bottle. We are proud of their past achievements and excited to realize the culmination of a decade of learning and focus, bringing authentic wines to the table
that they have found, seen, and touched at every step. Valravn wines are out-of-the-gate approachable, delicious, and table ready.
VINEYARDS | Since our first vintage (seven years ago), Valravn Zinfandel has been based on old, bush-pruned vines averaging 40 years old (some over 100) across the county’s best appellations. The core of the 2020 vintage is Zinfandel from the Russian River AVA with some Sonoma Valley and Knights Valley fruit. In addition, we peppered in some Yorkville Highlands Petite Sirah and Chalone Grenache for complexity. Hand harvested, hand sorted, and gently destemmed before fermentation.
WINEMAKING | In the cellar, primary fermentation is in small lots after a short cold soak with berries kept intact to capture the buoyant fruit profile. Following fermentation, the wine was barreled down for malolactic and aging for 18 months in French oak barrels and puncheon.
TASTING NOTES | Dark cherry and black raspberry aromas with pepper spiciness. The palate is warm with dark fruit flavors of blueberry, cassis, and blackberry compote which are complemented with briary notes and an energetic freshness. Strikes ideal balance of tannins, fruit and acidity.

“The 2020 Zinfandel (Sonoma County) is a heady, boisterous wine. Super-ripe dark fruit, chocolate, licorice, sweet spice, and tobacco are front and center. This racy, opulent Zinfandel packs quite the punch. And it’s a great value, too.“ -Antonio Galloni (January 2023)
