Funk Zone embodies the experimental spirit of Santa Barbara County winemaking with unique, boundary-pushing blends. In this case, we're talking about blending red and white grapes together, like the French do in the renowned Northern Rhône wines of Côte-Rôtie. Rich, meaty Syrah is blended with the white grape Viognier, which helps bring liveliness to the wine along with a note of acidity. Each vintage of Funk Zone expresses the unconventional, funky and cool in its own way, and this blend is a fresh, progressive version of the old French hit. An extra dollop of Viognier in this year’s blend really amps up the aromatics, as the bouquet of this wine leaps out of the glass, adding a perfumed, floral note. The grapes were sourced from Santa Barbara County cool-climate vineyards and were fermented and aged 12 months without the influence of new oak to ensure pure fruit flavors.
